Deer with a Broken Leg

There is a deer with his back leg broken I saw two weeks ago. It was sitting in my backyard but actually ran when I tried to walk over. I saw it again tonight eating. It is limping and the leg is still on but seems backwards. Will he survive or should animal control be called?

FROM WEBMASTER: I think you should call animal control. The poor thing is problably in pain and will have a tough life trying to find food, avoid cars and dogs, etc. I am sure that it can live that way, but will just have a lower quality of life. If you wanted to feed it and keep food out, it would probably stay with you if that is something you would want.

game wardens not responding here

In my area of California, calling Fish and Wildlife doesn't do any good. Other people say the same thing. Every time we have called about nuisance or injured animals, they tell us there is "nothing we can do". I guess all their time is spent making sure the regulations are being met. I don't think they do anything besides hand out citations and collect fines. (I am glad they do that, but sometimes they need to step up and dispatch injured or sick animals or remove nuisance or dangerous ones.) They just say they aren't allowed to transport animals and the game wardens around here don't come out to put them out of their misery, either.

Deer with broken leg
by: Anonymous

I saw a deer today with a broken leg. Dec 2, 2010.
The deer frequent our yard and we do put some food out for all the animals in the winter. My problem is we also have coyote's running around so I am afraid that it's life will end tragically.
I think it's better to call someone but who??
