Nasturtiums: Deer Resistant Annuals

I've been growing nasturtiums for two years now, and the deer don't touch them! They've leaned over the nasturtiums to get to the hydrangeas! What's odd is that nasturtium flowers are edible to humans. They're very easy to start from seed, sown directly in the ground or patio pot.

Deer and "Nasties"

We had prolific nasturtiums for 2 years; year 3 and 4, the deer devoured them.I'm going to try again!

deer candy

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the mule deer here in Astoria OR think nasturtiums are candy. I can only grow them in pots on the deck or inside my little fenced vegetable garden.

Nasturtiums hopefully not deer salad!
by: Anonymous

I'm going to try a pot of nasturtiums in a spot where the deer frequently visit in my garden this year. If they don't eat them here on Bowen Island, Canada - they probably wouldn't touch them anywhere else! The deer around here will browse just about anything.
I have quite a few starts saved from last years seeds, so it's less painful than watching them have a gourmet salad of some supposedly deer resistant astilbes and shasta daisies that I just purchased. I'll keep you posted!

I'm attempting to beautify our hilly shady deer laded back yard.
This time I'm going with deer resistant.
Thank you for this great resource!

Deer Don't Eat Nasturtiums?? Really?!
by: Aaron

ha! My nasturtiums got chomped by deer last night - almost all of them, along with the hydrangeas and even tomato plants.
